Auto Tags
Georgia tags must be purchased within 30 days after establishing residency. Automobile tags are issued by the tax commissioner’s office at the Baldwin County Courthouse located at the corner of Hancock and Wilkinson Streets. The telephone number is (478) 453-4813. If your automobile tag is still valid, there is a $20 charge for the tag and $18 to change the title.
Newcomers from out-of-state must pay an impact fee based on the value of each automobile brought into Georgia. Titles are required on all Georgia-registered motor vehicles up to 15 years old. Tags are renewed annually.
Driver’s Licenses
Newcomers must change their driver’s licenses within 30 days of moving to Georgia. Driver’s licenses are issued by the Georgia State Patrol, Department of Safety at 200 Carl Vinson Road from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. A written exam and an eye exam are required, along with a previous driver’s licenses or two pieces of ID, and a $15 fee in cash. Liability insurance is required by Georgia law. Electric Services
Depending on where you live, electric service will be provided by either Georgia Power Company or Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation. Georgia Power Company, the major supplier for Milledgeville, is located at 1840 N. Columbia Street. The local number is (478) 452-4551 and the toll-free 24-hour service number is 800-253-1080.
Tri-County Electric Membership Corp. located in Gray, serves portions of Milledgeville and Eatonton. The local number is (478) 986-3134 and in Eatonton (706) 485-6122. The toll-free service number is 800-342-3812.
Gas Service
Georgia Natural Gas Company provides natural gas service to Baldwin County. Service requests are handled by phone 24 hours a day at the local number (478) 452-0537.
There are several companies in the county which can provide liquid propane tanks and monthly service calls.

Water, Trash, and Sewage
Water, trash collection and sewage bills are a combined service within the city of Milledgeville. Sewage bills are calculated at 75% of the water bill and trash collection is a charge of $9.50, all combined into one monthly bill. For more information, call (478) 453-5709, or go by City Hall at 119 East Hancock Street. Outside the city, county water and sewage service is available in some areas. Contact the Baldwin County Water Board at 3014 Heritage Road or call (478) 453-4237 for more information. County residents have no trash collection service provided, but can employ a commercial trash company or take garbage to dumpsters or convenience centers located in the county. Locations for dumpsters and convenience centers can be obtained from the County Commission office at the Baldwin County Courthouse located at the corner of Hancock and Wilkinson Streets or call (478) 453-4791. The county landfill is located off County Line Church Road in the southwestern part of Baldwin County. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays. Recycling
Milledgeville residents have curbside pickup each Wednesday for the following items: glass, aluminum cans, metal cans and plastic (milk jugs, soft-drink containers and colored plastics with the numbers 1 or 2 inside the triangular recycling logo marked on the containers.) The Sanitation Department will leave a replacement bag each time they pickup. Newspaper recycling boxes are in the parking lot behind Milledgeville City Hall on East Hancock Street. Postal Service
Now that you are moving, don’t forget to change addresses for all your mail. Use the handy packet that is enclosed and supplied by the U. S. Post Office for this purpose.
Voter Registration
You can register to vote at the Baldwin County Courthouse located at the corner of Hancock and Wilkinson Streets. The Board of Registrars will assign you to the proper voting district.

Emergency Services
In the event of an emergency Baldwin County has an Enhanced 911 Service. To initiate this service, one simply dials 911. An operator will answer and ask which emergency department is needed and will make the connection.
