Oconee Regional Health Systems is comprised of Oconee Regional Medical Center (Milledgeville), an 140-bed acute care facility and a 15-bed skilled nursing unit, Oconee Regional EMS, which provides emergency medical service and non-emergency transport for the residents of Baldwin County, Behavioral Health Services, which provides outpatient treatment programs, the Cancer Treatment Center, which provides both radiation oncology and medical oncology services, Jasper Memorial Hospital (Monticello), a 12-bed critical access facility, The Retreat, a 55-bed skilled nursing facility, and the Primary Care Center, which is the local physician group in Jasper County.
Milledgeville (population 19,544) and Baldwin County (population 44,700) are located in Central Georgia approximately 85 miles southeast of Atlanta. Oconee Regional Medical Center is a reorganized 501-C-3 county hospital with a 9-member Board appointed by the County Commission. The hospital’s service area has a population of 125,000. There are 75 active physicians on staff, plus 30 consulting staff physicians. Average Daily Census is 55 for inpatient acute beds plus an active outpatient service. Park Tower, a $24 million addition, was completed in 2000 to provide additional services for obstetrics and surgical patients.
Known as Georgia’s Ante-bellum Capital, Milledgeville is a beautiful city with more than 200 architectural landmarks and historical homes. Georgia College and State University, considered to be academically demanding, is known as “Georgia’s public liberal arts university” and is a four-year university. Georgia Military College, a two-year college and preparatory high school and middle school, and Central Georgia Technical College are also located in Milledgeville. Many cultural events are available through GC&SU as well as Milledgeville’s Allied Arts Cultural Center. Lake Sinclair (15,300 acres) offers outdoor recreation such as fishing, swimming, boating, camping, etc. Other easily assessable cities include Macon (45 minutes), Athens (1.5 hours) and Atlanta (2 hours).
