After an evaluation by The University of Georgia’s School of Social Work, the Department of Behavioral Medicine at Oconee Regional Medical Center received approval as a field placement site for UGA’s Social Work graduate students.

    As part of this agreement, graduate level students would complete an internship at Oconee Regional Medical Center and the Department of Behavioral Medicine. While completing their internship, their duties would include:
    · Evaluation and assessment of patients seeking services from the Behavioral Medicine Department.
    · Participate in individual and group therapy sessions as appropriate for their learning experience.
    · Assist Case Management where appropriate in counseling patients being transferred or discharged from the hospital.
    · Provide community outreach where appropriate to provide evaluation services for those unable to travel to the hospital.
    · Assist in pursuing grant opportunities for ORMC.

    By participating as a field placement site, Oconee Regional Medical Center and the Department of Behavioral Medicine demonstrate their commitment to mental health and the social work profession by helping to develop new social workers.
