Sleep Evaluation Center Accredited

The Sleep Evaluation Center at Oconee Regional Medical Center was recently granted accreditation for a five-year period from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Inclusion in the AASM validates ORMC’s dedication to the advancement of sleep medicine.
ORMC’s Sleep Evaluation Center personnel are committed to ensuring that they provide excellent healthcare and enhance the awareness of sleep as an important element for health, public safety and the quality of life. The Center has recently been renovated and has 4 beds that are used in the diagnosis and treatment of potentially serious sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, excessive snoring, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder.
“Recognizing and treating some sleep disorders in the early stages can prevent more serious cardiovascular and neurological problems, which can be very expensive to treat,” said Ram K. Puri, MD, director of the Center.
Dr. Puri, who is certified in sleep medicine and pulmonology, further states that sleep disorders affect one out of every four individuals. “Left untreated, many serious conditions, such as sleep apnea, may have life threatening consequences,” he said.
Sleep studies require a physician’s order. Overnight sleep studies are conducted by highly trained sleep technologists while patients enjoy the comfort of private sleep rooms.
For those who suspect they have a sleep disorder, a consultation with Dr. Puri can be made by calling 478-453-3200.
