BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

      Behavioral Medicine at Oconee Regional Medical Center offers guidance and assistance to those with mental health and/or addiction problems.  Using the theme “New Directions,” the staff offers a confidential, caring environment that promotes crisis resolution, positive self-awareness, social skills and personal growth.  With a team of dedicated professionals and a comfortable, caring environment, our adult programs for psychiatric problems and/or chemical dependency/addictions which affect all areas of life can be treated.  New Directions at Behavioral Medicine Services is here to help with:

      Life Enrichment Adult Therapy Groups

      Provide therapeutic intervention and support for social interaction and structure in a group setting.  This allows clients to continue working and participating in community activities like civic clubs, church, and social organizations.  Programs offer individualized treatment based on a comprehensive assessment and interdisciplinary treatment plan.  Clients participate in group and individual counseling that focus on building the skills necessary for successful and effective functioning in community activities.

      Depression and Other Psychiatric Issues

      Are addressed through intensive group therapy combined with a physician prescribed regimen of medications.  This approach can bring relief with the understanding of the causes and the development of coping skills to deal with the issues.
       
      Substance Abuse
       
      Clients at New Directions can reclaim their lives through therapy groups, using a 12-step approach which supports long-term sobriety and recovery.
       
      Dual Diagnosis
       
      Is addressed in those clients who have psychiatric problems that are complicated by a co-existing substance abuse problem.  Emphasis is placed on increasing awareness of all addiction issues.

      Family Support, Education and Training
       
      Are open to families of current, prospective and alumni clients.  Family members gain insight into the nature of mental illness, substance abuse and addiction and learn coping skills and strategies for caregivers and family.
      ·       
      Residential Treatment
       
      Is available through New Directions’ arrangement with their strategic partners.  Adults needing maximum supervision and support will be referred to enhance their recovery.
            
      New Directions believes there is remarkable power in making the journey of recovery. Men and women who stay the course discover that they have rare courage, and many develop great inner strength, profound insight and an uncommonly generous spirit. The outpatient treatment center is located adjacent to the Hospital.
